Why I like it: Heathcote has built its reputation on ancient Cambrian soils and powerful, structured Shiraz and Mt Ida sits right in the heart of it.

This vineyard carries real history. Originally planted decades ago, it was lost in the devastating 1975 bushfires and later replanted a story of resilience that mirrors the strength of the wines it now produces. Located near Heathcote and not far from Stawell, the site enjoys warm days and cool nights, allowing fruit to ripen fully while retaining structure and natural acidity.

The 2023 vintage delivers classic Heathcote character: dark plum, blackberry and spice layered over earthy undertones and fine tannin grip. Fermented in small batches and matured in oak to build texture without overwhelming the fruit, this is a medium-to-full bodied Shiraz with both generosity and backbone.

Drink with roast lamb, slow-cooked beef or anything coming off the grill over the long weekend. Cellars comfortably for 8–12 years.
