Why I like it: Tempranillo is Spain’s noble red grape and the backbone of Rioja. Its name derives from temprano (“early”), referencing its early ripening nature. Traditionally it delivers savoury red fruit, spice and structural tannins.

In the Barossa Valley, Tempranillo takes on slightly riper fruit characters while maintaining its savoury backbone. The region’s warm days and cool nights allow both richness and structure.

Red cherry, plum and dried herbs with fine tannins and a balanced finish. Medium-bodied and food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with chargrilled meats and Mediterranean flavours.
